¨Travel Insurance

There is a fine line between adventure and unnecessary risk. What separates the two is how well-prepared you are for the activity you're undertaking. Stepping out of the comfort of your home and immersing yourself in nature is an adventure. However, failing to ensure you're properly insured is a risk. That’s why Churen Himal Treks & Expedition (P) Ltd. strongly recommends that all travelers purchase comprehensive travel insurance that covers all potential risks during their stay in Nepal.

As outlined in our Terms and Conditions, Churen Himal Treks is not liable for costs arising from emergencies or unforeseen situations. Additionally, foreign nationals cannot purchase insurance in Nepal. These factors highlight the need for our clients to secure a thorough travel insurance plan in their home country that covers a range of possibilities, including trip cancellations, helicopter evacuations, medical emergencies, illnesses, lost luggage, theft, natural disasters, and even death.

Key Considerations for Your Travel Insurance Plan:

  1. Helicopter Evacuation Coverage Accidents or illness in remote areas may require emergency evacuation by helicopter. While our team can arrange the helicopter, we are not responsible for the financial costs. If you don’t have insurance that specifically covers helicopter rescues, these expenses can be overwhelming. It is crucial to have coverage for this, as helicopter rescues in the Himalayas can be costly.
  2. Medical Treatment at High Altitudes Medical care for accidents or illnesses in high-altitude and cold-weather conditions is expensive. In some cases, a mobile medical team may need to accompany the helicopter crew to base camps, adding to the costs. Make sure your insurance covers medical expenses for potential altitude-related conditions and injuries.
  3. Disclosing Your Itinerary When purchasing travel insurance, it’s important to fully explain your itinerary to your insurance provider. Be sure they understand the nature of your trip, including any high-altitude trekking or mountaineering, so that your coverage is comprehensive. This makes it easier to claim insurance in case of an emergency.
  4. Consult Multiple Insurance Providers Consulting several insurance providers before choosing a policy can help ensure you’re adequately covered. Mountaineering is inherently risky, so it’s important to mention activities like ‘mountaineering’ or ‘alpinism’ when discussing your insurance needs to ensure you're covered for high-risk activities.
  5. Trip Cancellation Insurance Since deposits made to Churen Himal Treks are non-refundable, we strongly recommend clients purchase insurance that covers trip cancellations. This will protect your investment in case you need to cancel your trip unexpectedly.
  6. Provide Us with Your Insurance Details It is mandatory that you provide us with a copy of your insurance policy or certificate before your trip. This allows us to take the necessary steps in the event of an emergency.

Mandatory Travel Insurance Requirement

Travel insurance is mandatory for all customers trekking with Churen Himal Treks. Your policy must cover both medical expenses and emergency evacuation. We recommend that your coverage is worth a minimum of USD 100,000 to ensure you're fully protected.

The beauty of the Himalayas comes with inherent risks. While you may be well-prepared, it’s important to anticipate the unexpected. There is always a chance of minor health issues, injuries, or the possibility of altitude sickness while trekking in Nepal.

Helicopter Rescue Coverage Is Essential

In the event of a serious accident or acute mountain sickness (AMS), a helicopter evacuation is often the only way out of the mountains. This service includes ground rescue teams and helicopter evacuation. That’s why your insurance must cover these potential costs. Without proper coverage, a rescue operation could be financially devastating.
